De-nailing
DE-NAILING USING A METAL DETECTOR

A metal detector (also called a metal search device or metal probe) is a device for finding hidden metal parts, pipes, and electrical lines on land and underwater. We use this device to remove hidden nails from the beams and boards as a requirement for further processing.
DRYING AND ELIMINATING PARASITES

Technically dried ... our company remedy for fighting woodworms. Woodworms can only survive in wood that is damp enough. Often there are no longer any woodworms living in old woods - but it never hurts to be sure! In general, 55°C is enough to kill woodworms. To be certain, we heat our woods up to 85°C for at least three days, depending on the moisture content. This will kill the worms without using any chemicals or other harmful substances.
STRUCTURING AND CLEANING SURFACES BY BRUSH

When structuring a wood surface, the softer early wood is worked out using brushes. The late summer wood, i.e. the contrasting darker tree rings, is largely retained. The depth of the structure is determined by regulating the feed rate of the tool and by repeating the work process. Follow-up treatment is carried out by a brush with grinding bristles. In this procedure, the structure of the wood is particularly emphasised and existing wood fibres are removed. This gives the wood a surface that especially emphasises the nature of the reclaimed wood. All contaminations from past centuries are also removed.
ARTIFICIAL AGING THROUGH STEAMING

Steam is used as a simple method to age wood artificially and thus enhance it. In closed rooms, lignin components such as sugar, rubber and tanning agents in mill-run woods are decomposed using water vapour. The temperature must not exceed 100°c so that the wood fibres are not changed and weakened. after up to 180 hours, the wood is removed and dried. the duration of the steaming often depends on the strength of the wood. We treat our sawn products with steam so that the wood colours are even more intensively brown. A certain evenness of the surface colour is also achieved here that highly favours the use of the sawn products.
KEY AND SLOT

Slot-key connections enable fast form-fitting assembly for simultaneous tightness of the joints. The chosen variation depends on the raw materials and on the use case. Our external keys are coloured black prior to processing so that if the colour of the joint fades a shadow effect will be achieved.
Slot-Slot
With the slot-slot connection, both components to be connected on the edges are each inserted with a groove as the third component of an external key. The connection is form-fitting perpendicular to the board level.
Slot-Key
With the slot-key connection, a key is worked into the edge of one of the components to be connected at half width.
MEASURED PRECISELY ACCORDING TO YOUR REQUIREMENTS

Form cut on the invisible side
The back of the beams are processed in order to exclude tolerances for subsequent processing.
The result is a product with three original hand chopped visible sides.
Back side planned to measure
Treatment of boards with a planer machine to offset thickness tolerances caused by various harsh weathering.
Trimming
When trimming, both long edges are cut parallel on the boards.

MACHINE-CHOPPED - THE MORE AFFORDABLE ALTERNATIVE

As the required boards or lengths are not available in sufficient quantity with original hand-chopped boards, we also offer boards chopped by machine as an alternative. The surface has a lovely, even appearance, but a chopped look is still achieved in which each board is unique and none are completely alike. Wood nail holes across and lengthwise as well as splits are part of the character of these machine-produced boards. After chopping, the boards are always brushed.
BOX-BEAMS AND ELLBOW-BEAMS

If you want to install original hand-chopped beams, a problems often arise with regard to weight, transport, fastening or space for installations. Our solution is called box- and elbow-beams that are hollowed out or rebated in one flank. With this product, wall corners, edges, wall projections but also existing girders can be covered very easily. Handling and assembly are easy due to the minimized weight. The look corresponds exactly to that of the solid wood beams. There will be no hidden glue joints, nails or other fasteners that could falsify the natural edge as would be the case, for example, with the mitre variant. On request, you can also get the right mounting strip inserted into the groove. Our hollows are freely selectable by the customer up to 20cm / 20cm. We recommend a minimum outer wall thickness of 2.5 cm.
